Alternatives to 3Commas

By Stax Team

3Commas alternatives for crypto automation include Pionex for free built-in bots, Cryptohopper for a strategy marketplace and visual builder, Bitsgap for grid trading depth, WunderTrading for TradingView integration and copy trading, Coinrule for simple no-code rules, and Gunbot or OctoBot if self-hosting is the priority. StaxInvesting does not trade crypto and is not an alternative for crypto automation — it is relevant only to the narrow case where you are leaving over credential custody and also trade US options.

Two honest statements up front. 3Commas built this category and its feature depth in crypto is real. And we do not compete in it — this page exists because the reason many people search for alternatives is worth explaining properly.

Why people look for alternatives

Cost and feature fit account for most of it. Security accounts for the rest, and it is worth stating factually rather than sensationally.

In December 2022 a large volume of API keys tied to the platform were leaked. The instructive detail is how the losses occurred: accounts were drained through coordinated market manipulation rather than withdrawals, because the keys carried trade permissions but not withdrawal rights. Attackers used compromised accounts to buy illiquid assets against their own positions.

That is the lesson worth carrying to whichever platform you choose next: trade-scoped keys bound the loss, they do not prevent it. A credential that cannot withdraw can still cost you the account balance. Analysis of exposed keys found in public repositories has consistently shown the overwhelming majority carrying trade permissions.

Reports indicate the platform has since added encrypted API key storage, and that litigation related to the incident was reinstated on appeal in 2026. Verify the current position directly rather than relying on any summary.

The alternatives

Pionex is the most capable free option — built-in bots covering grid and dollar-cost-averaging strategies with no subscription, paying only trading fees. It operates as its own exchange, which means no external exchange connections and no API keys to leak, and also means you are confined to it.

Cryptohopper offers a large strategy marketplace, a visual strategy builder, and support for many exchanges. Strong for people who want community strategies rather than building from scratch, with the same survivorship caveat every marketplace carries.

Bitsgap is the grid-trading specialist, with combination bots and long-window backtesting across many exchanges. Deepest feature set for that specific style; premium features sit on higher tiers.

WunderTrading is the strongest fit for TradingView-driven automation and includes copy trading, across a broad exchange list, with a free tier that supports live rather than only paper trading.

Coinrule targets straightforward if-this-then-that rules without code, which suits simple automation and constrains complex logic.

Gunbot and OctoBot are the answers if self-hosting is your actual motivation. Gunbot runs locally under a one-time licence; OctoBot is free and open-source and requires technical setup. Both keep exchange keys on infrastructure you control rather than in a vendor database, which is the structural response to the credential-custody concern.

If credential custody is why you are leaving, those two are the honest recommendation for crypto. We are not.

What migrating actually involves

Bot configurations do not transfer between platforms, because each uses its own logic structure. Strategies have to be rebuilt, which is a reasonable moment to reconsider them rather than reproduce them.

Every platform on this list connects to the same underlying exchanges through API keys, so the migration path is the same: revoke the old keys first, generate fresh ones, and connect them to the new platform. Revoking first rather than last matters — a key you have stopped using but not revoked is still a live credential.

And grant the narrowest scope the new platform genuinely needs. Withdrawal permission has no legitimate place in a trading automation credential on any platform.

Where StaxInvesting does and does not fit

It does not trade crypto. If crypto automation is what you need, everything above is more relevant than we are, and Gunbot or OctoBot are the closer match on the self-hosting axis specifically.

The narrow case where we are relevant: you are leaving over credential custody, you also trade US options, and you want automation where the software is provisioned into your own cloud environment with broker credentials in your environment variables rather than a vendor database. That is the self-hosted model applied to options rather than crypto, with trade-scoped broker access and no withdrawal permission ever requested.

If that describes you, the comparison is worth making. If you are here for crypto bots, it is not.

The honest limits

No platform choice makes automated crypto trading safe. Crypto is volatile, many of these bots run leverage, and a security incident at one vendor does not mean the next one is secure.

Self-hosting relocates credential risk rather than removing it. A key committed to a public repository from your own machine produces the same outcome as a vendor breach, with nobody to escalate to.

And no automation creates an edge. Position sizing bounds loss regardless of platform or asset class — capital divided by twenty as the ceiling on any single position, under the divide-by-20 rule, enforced in the component that places orders so it applies to every signal.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best 3Commas alternative? Pionex for free bots, Cryptohopper for a marketplace, Bitsgap for grid trading, WunderTrading for TradingView integration, Coinrule for simple rules, Gunbot or OctoBot for self-hosting.

Is there a free 3Commas alternative? Pionex has no subscription and charges only trading fees. OctoBot is free and open-source but requires self-hosting.

Are trade-only API keys safe? Safer, not safe. The 3Commas incidents drained accounts using trade permissions alone, through market manipulation rather than withdrawals.

Can I migrate my bot configurations? No. Logic structures differ by platform, so strategies must be rebuilt. Revoke old exchange keys before connecting new ones.

Does StaxInvesting support crypto? No. It is options-focused, and for crypto automation the platforms above are the relevant options.
