A tight, directionless range manufactures the most frequent signals and the least follow-through at once, so a signal-following system over-trades it, bleeding the account through false breakouts and costs. How minimum-time-between-trades, concurrency caps, and reduced participation bound the churn, and the honest limit of each.
A multi-session momentum run to records, then a reversal, is the opposite management problem from a whipsaw: the position is aligned with a genuine move, and the question is how much to ride versus protect. How the two-phase stop, trailing distance, take-profit, and daily targets shape that trade-off, and the honest limit of each.
A hawkish Fed hike sent stocks down, then they rebounded the next morning as the guidance was read as reassurance, a reaction that unfolds and reverses over more than one session. How re-entry discipline, sizing, and loss limits bound the multi-session whipsaw, and why a daily limit bounds the day but not the sequence.
On a triple-witching day, a meaningful share of the movement is mechanical, pinning, position unwinding, settlement flow, not a directional signal a system can trade. How schedule control, contract-price filters, concurrency, and sizing bound exposure to an unusual expiration microstructure, and the honest limit of each.
When a binary event's outcome is already heavily priced, the expected move on the base case is small and the move on the surprise is large, the reverse of a coin flip. How sizing, defined-risk, and schedule controls position for the tail across an event with more than one point of surprise, and the honest limit of each.
A four-day slide into an inflation print reversed the instant it landed, even though the number cemented a Fed hike, because the event resolving lifted the uncertainty that was suppressing the tape. How re-entry cooldowns, trailing behavior, and schedule control bound the whipsaw at resolution, and the honest limit of each.
A macro shock can split the tape along sector lines, energy up, rate-sensitive sectors down, chips holding, while the index looks contained. How sector filters and concurrency caps bound the clustered, correlated exposure a rate-and-oil rotation creates, and the honest limit of each.
When a make-or-break scheduled print drops into a tape that is already stressed, crude over $100, yields at new highs, a multi-day slide, the question is not whether the VIX is cheap but how much exposure to carry. How defined-risk sizing, schedule controls, and loss limits bound it, and the honest limit of each.
