Trading Concepts

Very occasionally a trade you know is open stops showing on your Live Trades page. Your broker still lists the position, but the card is gone, so there's no Close button, no stop or target to adjust, and no live profit number.

This page explains what's actually happening and how to get the trade back.

The good news first

Your protection is still in place. Your take-profit and stop-loss orders live at your broker, not in this app. When a card disappears, those orders are untouched and still working — if price hits your target or your stop, the trade still closes exactly as it was set up to.

What you've lost is the view and the controls, not the safety net.

Why it happens

The bot keeps a running list of what it's managing, and your Live Trades page is a picture of that list. Once in a while the bot loses its place in that list — most often after it restarts, or after it briefly can't reach your broker and mistakenly concludes a position was closed. The position keeps existing at your broker either way; the bot just stops showing it to you.

Getting it back

At the top right of the Live Trades page there's a Recover missing trades button.

  1. Click it. The bot compares what your broker is holding against what it's currently managing. This only looks — nothing changes yet.

  2. You'll get a short list of anything it found, with the ticker, how many contracts, and your entry price. For example:

    SPY 8/21 640C — 5 × @ $1.42 — Ready to restore — the bot opened this and its bracket is live.

  3. Click Restore and the card comes back within a few seconds, with its stop, target, and live profit number intact. From there it's an ordinary trade again — you can close it, adjust it, or leave the bot to run it.

If everything the bot is holding is already on your page, it'll simply tell you there's nothing to restore.

What it will and won't touch

This tool only ever re-attaches a position that's already open. It never places a new trade, never closes one, and never changes your stop or target.

It also deliberately leaves some things alone, and will tell you why:

  • Positions you opened yourself at your broker — on their phone app or website. Those are yours to manage, so the bot stays out of them.
  • Anything already expired, or expiring today after the market has closed. There's nothing left to manage.
  • Positions where it can't tell for certain the bot opened them. When in doubt, it does nothing.
  • Positions with no take-profit/stop bracket at your broker. This tool re-attaches an existing bracket; it doesn't create one.

Note

If a position shows up as one the bot won't restore, that isn't a failure — it's the tool refusing to touch something it isn't sure about. Nothing is changed in that case.

If the button can't check

If your broker is slow or briefly unreachable, you'll see a message saying it couldn't check — not "nothing to recover". That distinction is deliberate: an empty answer would look like good news when it isn't. Wait a moment and click again.

While you wait

If you'd rather not wait, or the trade still doesn't come back, you can always close the position directly at your broker. That works whether or not this app is showing it.
